Instagram or a Website? What Small Businesses in Ahmedabad Actually Need
Many Ahmedabad shops and cafes run only on Instagram. Here's an honest look at when that's enough, when it isn't, and what a small website adds.

"Sir, Instagram is enough. Everyone is there."
I hear this a lot from boutique owners in Navrangpura, home bakers in Satellite and cafe owners on SG Highway. And honestly? Sometimes they're right. Instagram is a brilliant place to be seen.
But being seen and being found are two different things. Here's how to decide what your business actually needs.
What Instagram does really well
- Showing, not telling. Food, clothes, interiors and before/after work look great.
- Reaching people who don't know you yet through Reels, local hashtags and collaborations with food bloggers.
- Quick conversations in DMs.
If you're just starting out, Instagram is the right first step. It costs nothing and you can start today.
Where Instagram falls short
1. People searching on Google don't find you
Someone searching "birthday cake order Ahmedabad" or "cafe for meetings in Prahlad Nagar" is ready to buy right now. They search on Google or Google Maps, not Instagram. Without a website and a Google Business Profile, you're often invisible to them.
2. You don't own your page
Accounts get hacked, reach drops when the algorithm changes, and a page can be restricted without warning. Years of work can disappear. A website and your own customer list belong to you.
3. Information is hard to find
Menu, prices, hours, location, delivery areas, how to order — on Instagram they're buried in highlights and old posts. Customers get tired of DMing "price?" and move on.
4. It doesn't look established to everyone
For corporate orders, event bookings or B2B customers, a proper website with your own domain and email builds trust that an Instagram handle alone often doesn't.
What a small website adds
A good small-business website doesn't need to be big. It needs to answer the questions customers ask before they buy:
- What do you sell, and roughly what does it cost?
- Where are you, and when are you open?
- How do I order, book or contact you?
- Why should I trust you? (Photos, reviews, your story.)
Add a WhatsApp button, a Google Maps embed, and links to your Instagram — and your site becomes the place all your marketing points to.
So which one do you need?
Instagram only is fine if:
- You're testing an idea or just started.
- Most customers come through word of mouth.
- You don't have time yet to update anything else.
You need a website too if:
- People search for what you sell on Google ("near me", "in Ahmedabad").
- You take orders, bookings or enquiries and want fewer back-and-forth DMs.
- You want corporate, event or wholesale customers.
- You want to collect customer details for offers and loyalty — your own list, not the platform's.
- You're running ads and need a page that actually converts.
For most cafes, bakeries, salons, clinics, boutiques and service businesses in Ahmedabad, the answer is both: Instagram to be seen, a website to be found and trusted.
What it costs
A single page with your menu or services, location and a WhatsApp button is the cheapest option and often enough to start. A five-to-eight page site explaining what you do costs more, and one you can update yourself costs a little more again. The cost estimator gives you a rough range in a couple of minutes — and if a one-page site does the job, I'll tell you that rather than sell you more.
Make them work together
- Put your website link in your Instagram bio.
- Put your Instagram feed or best posts on your website.
- Use the same name, logo, phone number and address everywhere.
- Add your website to your Google Business Profile.
- Send ad traffic to a page on your website with one clear action, not to your profile grid.
The bottom line
Instagram is your shop window. A website is your shop's address, menu board and reception desk. Customers need both to go from "that looks nice" to "let's go there."
If you run a small business in Ahmedabad and want a simple website that brings in real enquiries, I'd be happy to look at your Instagram and suggest what makes sense — no pressure.
